last night was spent memorizing the
way our legs and fingers tangled so
comfortably together, and remembering the
way your breathing sounded next
to my ear (awaiting each sound as if desperate for
reassurance you’re still alive beside me)
tonight was spent missing the
way the bed indented with your weight and how
i’d fall against your body and match
my breathing with yours so our hearts slowed
and beat at the same pace (pretending that we’re
really one person, temporarily separated)
tomorrow will be spent wishing for the
yesterdays when the first thing i’d see when the
tomorrows arrived were your freckles (though the
line between today and tomorrow blurs
when bedtimes cease existing). so tell me, when
will tomorrow be yesterday again?
