i miss the violence of the Texas sun

i miss the violence of the Texas sun
an explosion of violet and red and gold
of warmth that bleeds into the sky and then
fades into indigo each sunset and
drains into blue each sunrise

i miss the violence of the Texas sun
that wrings the sweat from your tired skin
the energy from your tired body and then
leaves you lethargic and sleepy and
stays with you through the twilight

i miss the violence of the Texas sun
because here the sunrises are subtle and
here the sunsets are gradual and
here the the absence of the sun is noted by cold
rather than its presence by its heat

i miss the violence of the Texas sun
because here the sun is a moderator and
not the initiator of things to come
